At aureka we are passionate about developing user-friendly and understandable software for science, culture, and media. Our main product is a web application for intelligent searching, cataloguing and exploring audio(visual) media using deep learning and machine learning methods. Our desire is contributing to making audio(visual) heritage accessible to a broader public. We are also offering development services on a project-based basis to cultural and educational institutions to further nurture our organic growth.

We are an international team integrated by software developers, and humanities and social scientists. Our project received funding by EXIST, Prototype Fund and Ziviz Stifterverband and has been ongoing since the end of 2020.

Tasks

We are looking for a freelance developer with 2 or more years of experience. You will be joining our team to work on a project for a major educational institution in Berlin and keep developing our web app.

Requirements

Required qualifications

  • You are programming with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for at least 2 years
  • You have a degree in a technical / mathematical background such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Information Systems or alternatively 4 years of working experience
  • You have worked on at least two real world React projects
  • You have some open source projects that we can look into
  • You are keen to work with media libraries such as Video.JS and WaveSurfer.JS
  • You know about Containerization with Docker and how to run it locally
  • You know that clean code only makes half of a good programmer, the other half is good communication
  • You speak English or German with at least B2/C1 level and it’s easy for you to clarify your opinion in a conversation
Additional desired qualifications

  • You are using Linux as your OS
  • You are not only technically confident but also have a good understanding of user interfaces and intuitive usability
  • Your skills with Figma or similar UI/UX design tools are good enough to create functional wireframes
  • You have first experiences with: CI/CD, next.js and sentry
